John Robert D’Onofrio, 56, of Casper, Wyoming, died on Friday, March 21, 2025.
He was born in Manhasset, New York, on October 25, 1968. He was raised in New York and Hawaii before making California his home. In 2008, John relocated to Casper. He discovered a deep affection for Wyoming and everything it has to offer, and it is also where he met the love of his life, Andrea.
John was born to Karen Milligan (née D’Onofrio) and the late Louis D’Onofrio. He is survived by his wife, Andrea; his son, Will; his mother and stepfather, Karen and Dale Milligan; his mother-in-law, Darlene Brown; his sister and brother-in-law, Kristine and Ricky Nickel; his sister, Jenny Atkinson; his stepsister, Lisa Rutledge; his stepsister and step-brother-in-law, Tricia and Steve Rapaport; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Erich and Camie Black, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University located in Prescott, Arizona. He subsequently pursued a career as a professional pilot. John began his career as a flight instructor, then transitioned to roles as a skydive/jump pilot and a banner towing pilot, ultimately discovering his niche as a freight pilot. Since 2008, he has been piloting FedEx planes for Corporate Air based in Casper, Wyoming. John completed his last FedEx flight on October 1, 2024, prior to retiring early because of ALS. On Saturday, March 15, 2025, John successfully completed a final flight, made possible by the collaboration of Atlas Flight School, FedEx, Corporate Air, and the Casper-Natrona County International Airport. Thanks are given to the pilots, Anthony Engelman and Mason Johnson, for making this possible for the family.
John had a passion for skiing, biking, traveling, and enjoying family trips to Disneyland in California. He was a dedicated fan of the New York Jets and Mets, but above all, he cherished the moments spent with his family.
In 2013, John tied the knot with his beloved Andrea, and the following year, they welcomed their son, Will, into the world. John’s greatest joy is Will, and he cherished nothing more than watching him play soccer. When John wasn’t flying, he was observing Will play soccer throughout the town, state, and beyond. John’s life revolved around traveling to tournaments and cherishing moments with his “soccer family.”
In place of flowers, an account has been established to assist with expenses and Will’s future. Contributions can be made to an account at First State Bank in Casper, Wyoming under the name “Will & Andrea D’Onofrio.” Checks can be delivered in person or sent via mail to: OCF Office, 419 S. Washington St. Ste. 102, Casper, WY 82601.
John’s celebration of life is planned for this summer.
The family deeply appreciates all the love and support received during this challenging period.
