7 Festival Packing Hacks That Music Lovers Should Know

When the date of a music festival is approaching fast, it is easy to become so focused on all the fun you’re going to have that you forget to prepare for the – let’s face it – not-so-fun practicalities of festival living.

You probably know the basics like sunscreen, toiletries and portable chargers. This list has got you covered for the rest. These are the hacks that seasoned festival-goers wish they had known before, leaving you to focus on the big things like who you’re going to see and what you’re going to wear.

  1. Ziplock bags – These are a great way to keep your clothes fresh and dry, and they are good for your tech too. They are also convenient for separating items inside your backpack. If you get searched going in, these see-through bags are easy to pull out and repack, which can make going through security a bit smoother too.
  2. Bin bags – On the topic of bags, another good type to bring is large bin bags. You can use them for their intended purpose and keep your area clean, but they are also good for when your festival outfits get wet and dirty and you need to keep them separate. Also, you can cut some face and arm holes in them to make emergency ponchos if you get caught in a sudden downpour.
  3. Electrolyte packets – Go for ones that come as a powder in single-serving packets. They are light, can fit in pockets or small bags, and can be mixed with water to provide a much-needed pick-me-up after a few hours of dancing and drinking.
  4. Hand fans – Whatever weather you are expecting, the fact is that human bodies give off a lot of heat, and a lot of bodies packed tightly together and dancing give off even more. On your average hot day at home, a hand fan hardly makes a difference. But when you are in the middle of an enormous crowd, they can be a lifesaver.
  5. Baby wipes – These are an absolute must-have for wiping dust and dirt off during the day, or for when toilet paper runs out. It is also likely that they will be the nearest you will get to a shower for the duration, so bring plenty.
  6. Tape – Waterproof tape is easy to pack and great for any emergency repairs you might need to do. Hole in your tent? No problem. Sat on your sunglasses? They might not look as good, but at least you’ll be able to hold them together enough so that you can see the artists.
  7. Plastic bottles – A reusable water bottle is an obvious must. But if you’re planning on taking alcohol in with you, decant it into plastic bottles first because many festivals don’t allow glass. If you’re going as part of a big group, perhaps pack a few empties as there is often someone who doesn’t know.

Whether you’re a first-time festival-goer or a seasoned pro, these hacks will help make your experience more comfortable and enjoyable. You can also use them to help others, which is a brilliant way to make new friends.
